Hubble's Extras

Speech Cursor in the Browser

1. Integrated speech output

Speech output is a great help for people who have difficulty reading. In the Hubble programmes speech output is integrated. Almost everything can be read aloud to you if you have a speech synthesiser: the names of buttons, incoming and outgoing messages (in the chat and e-mail modules), the names of senders and recipients, the text on web pages, links and menus, and so on. The speech output is easy to use and accompanied by good visual feedback. In the web page to the right, for example, a red frame and a blue cursor indicate what is spoken at the moment.

2. Fully configurable toolbars and buttons

Example of a button layout

Through the button layout, the software can be fully adjusted to the user's needs. The Layout Designer (provided with the Hubble Suite) gives you the power to select:
- the most relevant/simple functions only
- the colour, size, picture and text on each button
- the number and grouping of buttons on each toolbar, and
- the number and the location of toolbars.
In fact, each user can have his "own" software tailored to his preferences.

3. Selection Set for text and other input

Selection Set The Selection Set is a dynamic graphic menu that can be filled with symbols, single characters and text. Users who can't handle a keyboard can use the graphic menu instead e.g. to enter text in a form on a web page (in the Browser) or to write an e-mail message (in the E-mail program). Custom made menus can also contain fields that act as a program button. Optionally, grammar Support and Word Prediction can be added.

4. Switch access

The toolbars and the Selection Set are scannable. This means that the cursor can be moved over the toolbars, the buttons and the Selection Set with switches. Another option is to let the cursor move automatically, allowing the user to select a field or button using one switch. This way, the symbol user can select symbols and buttons without using a mouse or keyboard.
